06/09/24

Last night's 5 mile Championship was the last TT of the season. Held in very windy conditions, the event was won in a great time of 10:48 by Andy Thomas.

Matt Goodwin secured the 5 mile championship with a PB of 11:14, with Sam Abdy and Martin Softley finishing second and third. Martin also achieved a PB.

The Ladies Championship was won by April Page with a PB of 14:08, with Catherine Smart and Marie Page finishing second and third. Catherine's time of 15:00 was also a LVet3 category record.

The night also saw the conclusion of the two year long championships. Sam Abdy won the Club Championship with Martin Softley and Gaz Stacey finishing second and third. Martin Softley won the Club Handicap Competition with Dave Norris and Sam Abdy finishing second and third.

Congratulations to all of the riders who set PB's and category records throughout the season, and thanks to all riders for participating.

Special thanks to all timekeepers and their assistants, and all of the marshals. Without their help we would not be able to hold these events.

Saturday saw two club members in action in the Rutland CC Open 10 mile TT held on the O10/1 course at Hatfield.

Matt Goodwin finished in 10th overall with a 21:59, with Luke Dixon finishing 5th road bike with a 24:51.

Last night was the last 10 mile TT of the year, which was also the 2up Team Time Trial Championship.

The 2up TTT Championship was won by Sam Abdy and Matt Goodwin in a new Category Record time of 21:13, which beat the previous record held by Sam and Neil Wilson since 2018.

Congratulations to Darren Busby/Martin Softley and Simon Gardener/Kevin Sayles for finishing second and third in the championship.

Congratulations also to April and Marie Page who set a new Ladies Category Record of 29:08.

The solo event was won by John Brearley in an awesome time of 20:02, and had he not encountered some traffic at Wolds Crossroads, he could have broken the magical 20 minute barrier.

Last night also saw Matt secure the Four Best Tens Championship, and as this is a new event (used to be Six Best Tens) six new Category Records were established (see the TT Records page).

Last nights 10 mile TT saw a category record and three PB's.

Matt Goodwin further extended his Vet 1 Category Record by a solitary second (they all count) which was also a PB, and Luke Dixon and Adam Oughtibridge also PB'd.

With only two events left, last night's result has all but won Matt the Four Best Tens competition, and also gave Sam a pretty much uncatchable lead in the Club Championship. The Club Handicap Competition is also all but decided with Martin further extending his lead.

Saturday saw a host of Open Event Category Records broken in the VTTA East Mids Open 25 TT held on the A25/34 course near Newark.

Matt Goodwin finished in tenth position with a fantastic time of 54:11, beating the current Vet 1 category record by 1:46 which was set by John Gadie 19 years ago.

Sam Abdy finished in 16th position with a Vet 2 category record of 55:27, which takes 1:57 off John Gadie's previous category record set 6 years ago.

John Gadie finished in 30th with a 59:23, and to make up for the loss of two category records, contributed to two new category records.

Matt, Sam and John set a new record of 2:49:01 for a team of three, and a new record of 2:41:47 for a team of three Vets on age adjusted times.

Congratulations to all three.

A wet and windy night for last night's circuit TT produced some surprisingly good times, with a Category Record and five PB's.

Congratulations to Matt Goodwin for winning the event in a spectacular PB time of 24:29, smashing the previous Vet 1 category record by over a minute.

Congratulations also to Martin Softley, Luke Dixon, Dave Norris, Kevin Sayles and Simon Gardener on their PB's.

And finally, congratulations to Sam Abdy for securing the Deepdale Challenge without even riding.

Last night's 10 mile TT was held in wet and windy conditions. Well done to the 11 riders who braved the conditions.

Congratulations to Sam Abdy who won the event.

With the year long championships heading to an end, theres all to play (ride) for. Dave Norris has moved into second place in the Handicap Competition, and there are only 3 points between Martin Softley and Sam Abdy at the top of the Club Championship. With only two 10 mile TTs left, the Four Best Tens competition looks to be done and dusted, but next weeks Deepdale event could change all in the Deepdale Challenge.

Last night's 15 mile TT Championship saw six PB's and two Category Records.

The Championship was won  by Bevan Jones on a road bike (awesome), with Sam Abdy and Martin Softley coming second and third.

Massive congratulations to Dave Norris and April Page on their Category Records and PB's.

Congratulations also go to Martin Softley, Gaz Stacey, Kevin Sayles and Simon Gardener on their PB's.

This weekend saw John Gadie and Sam Abdy in action in the Seacroft Wheelers Open 10 TT held on the V518 at Thorpe Willoughby.

Held in calm but hot conditions, Sam completed the course in 22:44, finishing 9th overall and 5th Vet.

John completed the course in 24:20 finishing 22 overall and 15th Vet.

Last night's Ladies and Vets Championship 10 mile TT was held in near perfect conditions, as was shown by the two PB's and a Category Record.

The event was won by John Brearley in an amazing time of 20:05, closely followed by Andy Thomas in a course PB of 20:24.

Congratulations to Sam Abdy for winning the Vets Championship , with John Gadie and Martin Softley in second and third place, and to April Page for winning the Ladies Championship with her mother Marie in second place.

Congratulations also to Simon Gardener and Dave Norris on their PB's, of which Dave's was also a new Vet3 category record.

Last nights 25 mile TT Championship was held in extremely hot conditions. The event also included the Ladies Handicap Championship.

The event was won by Andy Thomas in an amazing time of 53:22, which was his course PB.

The championship was won in a fantastic time of 55:43 by Matt Goodwin. This was also a PB and the Vet1 Category Record. Second place went to Sam Abdy, with Martin Softley taking third place.

Congratulations to April Page for winning the Ladies Handicap Championship with a PB of 1:09:13, and also to Simon Gardener for his PB of 1:11:29.

This weekend saw two club members in action.

On Saturday, Luke Dixon braved the wet weather to take part in the City RC Open 10 TT on the V714, unlike Kevin and Sam who chose not to risk the weather.

Congratulations to Luke who recorded a 25:16 to finish second place road bike.

On Sunday, April Page took part in her first road race in the Seacroft Wheelers Road Race. In a fantastic performance for her first event of this type, April not only stayed with the pack, but attacked on the only incline with 3 miles to go, only to be caught at the last corner by a large group that out sprinted her to the line. A great performance which promises plenty to come.

Once again last night's TT was held in very windy conditions. However, that didn't prevent Matt Goodwin from posting a fantastic 21:18, winning the event in a PB, breaking the Vet1 Category Record and finishing 2nd in the Handicap Championship. Matt also took the lead in the Four Best Tens competition, so overall a very successful night.

Congratulations to Simon Gardener for winning the Handicap Championship with a PB of 27:17.

Last night's Middlemarkers Championship 25 mile TT was held in very windy and hot conditions.

The event was won by John Brearley in a fantastic time of 53:38, whilst John Gadie won the Middlemarkers Championship in a time of 1:04:19.

Congratulations to Martin Softley, who further bettered his PB with a brilliant time of 1:00:46, getting ever closer to beating the hour.

The last two nights have seen plenty of PB's and a Category Record.

Firstly on Wednesday night both Matt Goodwin and Luke Dixon were in action in the ADDFORM Vive Le Velo Open 10 mile TT. Matt Recorded a PB of 21:22 despite being held up at two roundabouts, and Luke recorded a road bike PB of 24:18. Congratulations to both.

Then last night saw perfect conditions for the club 10 mile TT. Won by Sam Abdy with a Vet2 Category Record of 21:40, there were also four PB's recorded. Congratulations to Martin Softley, Gaz Stacey, Kevin Sayles and April Page. For those that chose to watch a lack lustre England performance, you missed the best night of the year!

John Gadie and Sam Abdy were in racing action again yesterday in the VTTA East Midland Open 25 TT held on the A25/34 course near Newark.

In what can only be described as a race of two halves, with a delayed start due to bad weather, John managed to complete the course and stay dry in 59:41. Meanwhile, Sam set off in bright sunshine, only to be met with biblical conditions at the half way point. Faced with thunder and lightning, a mini tornado and hailstones, many riders abandoned, but Sam still managed to complete the course in 56:57.

Last night's TT was held in conditions more like March than June. Congratulations to all seven riders who took to the line in wet and windy conditions.

Well done to Shaun Robinson from Lindsey Roads CC for winning the event, closely followed by Sam Abdy in second place.

This weekend only saw one member in race action.

John Gadie took part in the Birdwell Wheelers Open 10 mile TT held on the O10/1 course.

John recorded a very commendable time of 23:50 in very windy/gusty conditions.

Last night was the first 25 mile TT of the season which included the Longmarkers Championship.

The event was won by Sam Abdy in a time of 58:00.

Congratulations to Adam Oughtibridge for winning the Longmarkers Championship, with Gaz Stacey and April Page coming second and third.

Congratulations also to Martin Softley and Dave Norris on their PB's.

This weekend saw four club members in TT action.

On Sunday, Sam Abdy, John Gadie and Kevin Sayles competed in the Selby CC Open 10 mile TT held on the V511. Sam finished in 9th place overall and fourth Vet with a 22:48. John finished 20th overall with a 24:06, and Kevin finished 35th overall and 5th road bike having ridden fixed wheel with a 26:56.

Meanwhile, Matt Goodwin road the Ely and District Open 10 mile TT held on the B10/1R, finishing in 5th place overall with a 22:26. He also claimed 1st in the 40-44 age category and 3rd Vet.

Well done to them all.

Last nights Deepdale Circuit TT was held in very windy conditions.

The event was won by Sam Abdy who posted extremely consistent lap times with only 1 second difference between all three laps. Sam also took the lead in the Deepdale Challenge competition.

Yesterday saw the club being represented by two riders in the Melton Olympic Open 25 TT held on the A25/34 course near Newark.

John Gadie was first to finish with a 1:00:14, with Sam Abdy recording a 56:15 to take John's previous Open Category Record by over a minute which had stood for six years.

Last nights TT was won by John Brearley in a fantastic time of 20:37, on a cold and windy night.

First BWCC rider was Matt Goodwin in a PB equalling time of 21:32.

Yesterday saw three club members take part in the VTTA National 10 mile TT Championship on the O10/1 course.

Matt Goodwin finished 17th overall and joint winner of the Over 40 age category with a 22:01. Sam Abdy finished 25th overall and 8th in the Over 55 age category, also setting a new club Open Event age category record with a 22:29. Luke Dixon finished 67th overall and 4th in the Road Bike category with a 25:15.

Congratulations to all three on a good showing for the club.

Last night was the first 15 mile TT of the season which saw three PB's and a Category Record.

The event was won by Sam, just scraping under 34 minutes, with Martin runner up.

Congratulations to Martin, Gaz and April on their PB's, with Gaz smashing his previous PB by over two and a half minutes.

Congratulations to April who set a new Senior Ladies category record, breaking the old one which had stood for 6 years, and in the process becoming the first Senior Lady under 40 minutes.

Last night's good weather saw another increase to the most entrants this year with 18 riders taking to the line.

Congratulations to Matt, who not only won the event, but also smashed his PB and went under 22 minutes for the first time.

Despite a NE wind, times were good with Julian Ramsbottom winning in a fantastic time of 20:30.

After last weeks event was cancelled due to bad weather, it was good to be back racing even though it was cold, but at least it was dry.

The Deepdale Circuit TT was won by Sam with Martin taking the runners up spot.

Last night was the first 10 mile TT of the season. Held in close to perfect conditions, warm and a SW wind, 17 riders competed. Congratulations to Andy Thomas who won with a fantastic time of 20:57, and to both Matt Goodwin and April Page for setting PB's so early in the season.

On Sunday, seven club members joined the memorial ride for Stu Simons. In very windy and at times wet conditions approximately 20 riders left Barton Market Place to ride a 98 mile course which formed part of the London Edinburgh London ride that Stu had previously taken part in.

Huge kudos to Ali Schofield who completed the whole course, with hubby Andy completing 60 miles. Dave Haddock, Calvin Burton, Darren Busby and Sam Abdy completed 40 miles. Robert Danson had to cut his ride short due to the weather and his wardrobe choices, but still managed 24 miles. Well done all who rode any or all of the course.

Last night was the first club event of the season. 11 plucky riders took to the line for the 5 mile TT in cold, wet and windy conditions. The event was won by Sam Abdy, closely followed by John Gadie.

Congratulations to April on her PB and also for catching her mother :-)

On Good Friday Sam took part in the City RC Open 10 mile TT on the V714. On yet another windy day Sam posted a time of 23:34 despite shipping his chain and getting held up at the turn, finishing a creditable 28th out of a large field of 106.

John and Sam were at it again yesterday, riding the Hull Thursday RC Open 2up Hard Riders TTT. A shorter course than the previous event (23 miles), saw them finish sixth again in a time of 59:14. Ridden in what can only be described as brutally windy conditions, just finishing was an achievement.

This weekend saw a busy weekend for some of the BWCC members.

Firstly, on Saturday, Sam and John rode the City RC Open 2up 25 Hard Riders TTT on the V733, which certainly lived up to its name. On a cold and windy day Sam and John finished sixth in a time of 1:04:35.

Then Sunday saw five members and a visitor complete the 40 mile Reliability Ride in very wet and windy conditions. Well done to Sam, Dave, Calvin, Ian and Darren for completing the course in just under 3 hours.
