08/05/23

Sunday 07/05/23 was the first social ride outing of the year. 6 of us headed to the North Yorkshire Moors for a day of serious climbing in some stunning scenery.

The day started off nice and sunny leaving Pickering, and we soon started climbing the first feet of what ended up being a total ascent of over 5000 ft, with some gradients reaching 33%.

We hit rain at about the 18 mile mark, which lead to some interesting descending, but we all survived, and had dried out before arriving at the cafe stop.

Once settled in the sun with the obligatory sausage butty (I may have embellished mine slightly) and view over the valley, it was easy to forget the earlier rain and tortuous climbs.

However, our legs quickly reminded us of the previous climbing as we left the cafe straight into yet another climb.

We arrived back at the cars after 45 miles, tired but elated at a great day of riding.

Thanks to John for organising the ride/route, and to those attending making it a very enjoyable jolly.

04/05/23

On yet another cold and windy night, 10 riders turned out to do battle with the tough conditions.

Well done to those who turned up and to Andy Thomas for a great time on a very hard night.

As always thanks to the officials and helpers for turning out on such a miserable night.

Check out the results on the TT Results page.

07/05/23

Massive congratulations to Bevan who not only set his PB, but smashed the club open 10 mile TT Senior Record yesterday.

Competing in the East Lancashire Road Club Open 10 on the L1015, Bevan finished with a superb 19:19, beating his PB by a single second, and smashing the club record by an amazing 87 seconds, which had stood since 1999. He finished 6th overall out of a field of 100 riders. What is even more impressive is that this was done in torrential rain!

Well done Bevan.

27/04/23

We went from the largest field of the year last week to the smallest of the year last night. It was hardly surprising though as it was a wet and cold night.

There was good news however, as we were able to use the proper course for the first time this year.

Well done to those who turned up and to Martin for a PB.

As always thanks to the officials and helpers for turning out on such a bleak night.

Check out the results on the TT Results page.

20/04/23

Next weeks event will hopefully see us returning to the usual 10 course (flooding permitting).

13/04/23

Unfortunately it is becoming a theme for this season, but again, last night's event saw a course change due to the underpass being flooded.

As always thanks to the officials and helpers.

Check out the results on the TT Results page.

Next weeks event is the Deepdale circuit which will start at 19:00. Meet/sign on at Deepdale Garden Centre.

Sunday 09/04/23 saw in excess of 20 riders leave Barton Market Place on a memorial ride for Stu Simons on either a 65 mile or 130 mile route. 8 of these riders were from BWCC. A further 10 riders joined them at Caistor for a brilliant turn out for Stu. It really shows just how well thought of and remembered Stu is.

Special mention goes to Adam Oughtibridge and Calvin Burton who both completed the 130 mile route.

06/04/23

Once again last night's event saw a last minute course change due to the underpass being flooded.

On a very wet night we had 16 entries. Congratulations to Andy Thomas for taking the win.

As always thanks to the officials and helpers.

30/03/23

Last night saw the first time trial of the year take place. Due to the underpass being flooded, a last minute course change was required, using the 4.8 mile Burnham Loop instead.

Big congratulations to Club member Simon Leech who has been sporting his club kit from afar this year. He has taken part in a couple of UCI events, getting 3rd place in Jordan and 6th place in Dubai. He'll also be representing GB (and BWCC) in the Gran Fondo ITT and Road Race in Glasgow at the World Championships in August (50 to 54 age category).

Keep up the good work Simon!

Does anybody else have any pics of club kit being worn far from home?

In memory of our friend Stu Simons members of the Phillips66 Cycle Club will be taking part in a self-supported Audax style ride on Sunday 9th of April.
The ride will start from Barton marketplace at 0700  and take them through to Boston and back to Barton using the Audax LEL route, clocking up a distance of 130 miles.
As many of you know the 960 mile London-Edinburgh-London Audax was Stu’s favourite ride which he successfully completed twice.  This date has been chosen as it is 3 days before what would have been Stu’s 45th birthday.
Just to clarify, this will be self-supported with no support vehicles or feed stops and it is anticipated that people will ride in small groups or on their own.
It would be great to see some BWCC members there to help pay tribute to Stu, whether they come along for part or all of the route. Any questions please get in touch via the BWCC email address.

Please use the following link for the route, but be aware the start/finish has been changed to Barton Market Place:
