Saturday Club Rides

Weekly Saturday Club Ride

Meet: Every Saturday 8:30am

Meet at Barton Market Place, the route, pace and distance depends on the people who turn up. Road bikes advised and helmets are compulsory, you may want to consider carrying a spare innertube, pump and tyre levers. Please don’t expect other to provide this for you!!!

Depending on the riders who turn up, the group may split into two groups to accommodate all paces, but the routes will all aim to meet at a Cafe before heading back to Barton.

Example rides:  20 mile Wootton loop finishing at a Café in Barton or  30/40-mile Ride: Leave Barton head towards Wootton, Melton Ross, then Howsham, stop at Claytons Café then head back to Barton via Brigg.

Please note: If you are not familiar riding in a group then don’t worry, people will be happy to advise and give you pointers.

Why should I come on a club run?

It’s the best way to progress your cycling. You’ll learn how to ride safely and efficiently in a group and it’s far easier to head out for a winter training ride knowing you’ll be with a group rather than on your own.

What level of fitness is required?

You’ll need a reasonable level of fitness but you definitely don’t need to be a super fit racer. If you can ride your bike for 15-20 miles, you’ll be able to ride 30 and join a club run.

Do I have to be a member?

The aim of these rides is to encourage new riders to become members, all we ask is on your second ride you become a member and help to encourage others to join.

Our Weekly Ride Mission Statement

  • To deliver a safe and enjoyable group ride that suits varying abilities
  • Each group will go at the speed of the slowest rider, regrouping if necessary
  • These are social rides not training rides, If you want more from the ride you can always add miles before or after the social ride

Hill climb 2016 complete

This Sunday saw the second year of the re-introduced Hill climb event in Saxby. The event sees riders tackle Saxby hill and Danns Hill, both timed, with the fastest combined time deciding the winner.

Both hills are extremely tough and a serious test for an calibre of rider, with gradients in excess of 10% throughout, with a maximum incline of around 15%. Anyone who has ridden the hills will know that it is a recipe for some serious pain!

This year was well attended with 15 riders taking to the starting block. The weather was kind and everyone enjoyed it as much as is possible given the event. For all those who missed it make sure you turn up next year as its a great event and something a bit different.

Nev Crane Memorial 25

A message from Doug Laidlow at Sleaford Wheelers.

Good day to you all,
The 9th edition of the Nev Crane Memorial ’25’ is on the horizon. How quickly the time seems to pass by. Once more the Sleaford Wheelers are looking for entries for arguably the richest TT in Lincs DC and until our recently held Charity ’10’, held the proud position of being the best supported Open TT in the County.
Four times the event has attracted over 100 entries with a high of 115 and a low of 89. Now having shown that Lincs single carriageway courses can pull in a full field as happened in the Charity event when 129 were on the card, it would be just great to go there again.
Course C25/35 last year posted the first 49 minute ride ever seen in an Open in the County in this event. Three such rides were recorded in the National in 2013 and the 49:53 recorded by Matt Bottrill in winning this event is the 3rd quickest time the County has ever seen. 2nd quickest time also belongs to Matt in the 2013 National.
So have I whetted your appetites enough for you to put an entry in by Post or by Internet? Internet Entry is so simple so why delay? If you have already entered please accept my apologies.

Regards,

Doug Laidlow
